Vortex Insulation – Energy Efficient Attic Insulation

Categories:

An insulation contractor is one of the best investments you can make in your home. A good insulator helps you avoid overworking your cooling system in the summer and keeps your furnace from running too often in winter.

Proper attic insulation is necessary for optimal energy efficiency and comfort in your home. Attic insulation fills in empty spaces to prevent heat from escaping through the ceiling and into your living space. In addition, it redistributes heat already in your home, keeping it more consistent from room to room.

The type of attic insulation you choose depends on your budget and the needs of your home. ENERGY STAR offers many resources to help you make an informed decision.

How Vortex Insulation Helps You Save on Energy Bills

There are various types of attic insulation, including fiberglass batts, blown-in cellulose, and spray foam. Each type of insulation has a different R-value, which measures how much it prevents heat transfer. For instance, a fiberglass batt has an R-value of about R-30 while wet spray cellulose (also known as cellulose sprayed) has an R-value of about R-49.

Loose-fill insulation, such as cellulose or fiberglass, is the cheapest attic insulation option, but it may settle over time causing a loss in R-value. In addition, it isn’t the most environmentally friendly option as it contains a large amount of ammonium sulfate.

Blown-in cellulose is an eco-friendly attic insulation option with a high R-value and is installed by blowing the material into place. It also includes a fire-resistant component which is very effective against the spread of flames in case of a house fire.
